Dear Local 115 Member:
We have some more news to share with you further to our recent email.
The Local has funding to send four Local 115 members to the Alberta Federation of Labour Summer Labour School, and is requesting names to enter a draw to attend. The topics of the Labour School are Pensions/Old Age Security, Drug Testing, Employment Insurance, and Temporary Foreign Workers. The school will be held at Olds College in Red Deer from May 23 to 25. If you submit your name for the draw, please request you union leave of absence as well; if you do not get drawn, you can withdraw the LOA request. As per a motion pertaining to non-UNA events, preference for the draw will be given to members who have attended at least 3 Local 115 meetings in the 12 months prior to the draw. The deadline to submit your name for the draw is April 26 by 16:00. Winners will be notified the week of April 29, and the registration deadline is May 3rd.
The UNA provincial Annual General Meeting is scheduled in Edmonton for November 19-21. The Local deadline for constitutional amendments and policy resolutions is May 1 at 16:00, and the Local will hold a vote on whether to support the submissions on behalf of the Local at our May 8th meeting in the FMC Auditorium from 16:00-18:00. The provincial deadline for amendments and resolutions is June 12 at 16:00. If you require assistance in writing an amendment or resolution, the Local Executive will be happy to support you. The Local will soon be accepting nominations for delegates to the AGM, and the deadline for nominations will be September 4 at 16:00. Contact the Local office for a nomination form, or check on our Local 115 Website for the form to appear by early May.
National Nursing Week is May 6 to 12. We will have a booth set up on the ground floor of FMC in the hallway between the main elevators and the main cafeteria on May 7th from about 08:30 to 14:00. At the booth we will be giving away cookies and healthy snacks. We are also planning another free coffee cart on May 9th, and we will aim to visit the main FMC tower and SSB. The free coffee cart has been a great way to meet members and foster solidarity amongst our membership; we will be planning another one in the near future as well.
Local 115 holds meetings on the second Wednesday of every month (except July and August) from 16:00-18:00 in the FMC Auditorium. Please feel free to get in touch with the Local 115 office if we can be of any assistance on these or any other matters.
